Welcome to Celebrate 88 – Australia’s leading centre for World Expo ’88 – and World Expositions.
This year is an exciting year for reflection and progress.
The 25th Anniversary was a watershed year for the celebration and commemoration of World Expo ’88 – and with a strong grass roots campaign through the 25th Anniversary People’s Committee, led by Executive Director Peter Rasey and myself; a robust new addition of some 200 YouTube videos chronicling the art and people from Expo, at http://www.youtube.com/foundationexpo88/; the new Museum of Brisbane stunning Expo 88 retrospective exhibition “Light Fantastic”, to which our former body Foundation Expo ’88 contributed some 150 items of memorabilia, and numerous events on and around the former Expo site, South Bank Parklands, including on the Kookaburra Queen and at Brisbane’s own Eiffel Tower, at Savoir Faire Milton, we were able to achieve more than our wildest dreams.
And yet, there is still much more to be done.
Brisbane City is yet to ratify its membership of the Bureau of International Expositions led “Assembly of Expo Cities and Regions” – or known as A.V.E. in its French acronym – which would see World Expo ’88 – and Brisbane City – represented on the international stage at the regular Meetings of the Assembly, held at the end of each World Exposition, an invaluable international Expo Cities networking forum – to which Celebrate 88, in its former body as Foundation Expo ’88 has attended as an Observer.
2014 also sees Foundation Expo ’88 (and Museum Expo ’88) re-brand itself with a new simple moniker, “Celebrate 88”!, which we hope conveys the important role of continuing the celebration of the legacy of Expo ’88 beyond the 25th Anniversary year.
Whether you are a die-hard World Expo ’88 aficionado, or learning about Brisbane’s Expo 88 for the first time, WELCOME! We hope you will find here with our website, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube affiliate pages and channels everything you needed to know about World Expo ’88.
With kind regards,
John R McGregor
